Birdstown Productions dates back to 1974 when a group of adventurers decided to combine their efforts on the North Shore of Puerto Rico and cater to an up and coming generation of Island extreme sports enthusiasts that were beginning to explore the limits of Surfing, Hang gliding, Skateboarding, Sand boarding, and other other extreme sports. The North and North-West Coast of Puerto Rico offers the right climate year round, and most consistent conditions and terrain for these and other alternative sports to be practiced. Birdstown Surf Shop was originally conceptualized by Noemi (Mimi) Nieves, Roberto Viera, and Hector (Bird) Valle out of the North Island town of Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. The name comes from the legendary owner-entrepreneur, Hector (El Pajaro) Valle, who was known as the "Bird-Man" on this side of the Island, due to his Hang Gliding flights off the Guajataka Beach cliffs and the Arecibo Lake ledges. The first shop opened its doors to the public at a modest location near the town plaza in the summer of 1974. The shop featured surfboards from various manufacturers in Hawaii, California, and Florida, as well as local boards made in Puerto Rico by End Bender and Summer Jet. The original Birdstown Surf Shop also featured Skateboard products from the top manufacturers in California and Florida. Walker skateboards and the legendary Bruce Walker were significant contributors to the development of Birdstown. Original riders included Martin Velazquez, Eddie Garcia, Ruly Garcia, Clemente Barreto, and many other, to numerous to mention on this short space. Birdstown continued to lead the way on board sports over the decades and intends to facilitate each and every nature sports advocate to master the elements.
